10 Reasons Websites don’t rank in Google. Pt 2: Poor Activity

Let’s think about some websites that are always at the top of the Google rankings…
The BBC (www.bbc.co.uk)
The Telegraph (www.telegraph.co.uk)
EBay (www.ebay.co.uk)
Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.com)
Youtube (www.youtube.com)
Amazon (www.amazon.com)
IMDB (www.imdb.com)These are all well known and high ranking websites, but it’s fair to say they’ve got little in common apart from perhaps one thing….their content is changing all the time.
Let’s consider the role of a search engine.
Its job is to give us the most relevant and up to date answer for the questions we ask it. Google, Yahoo and MSN can’t afford to miss a trick. If the latest breaking news story or article can be found on one of its competitors, then that’s bad news for a search engine.Google will visit your site regularly, however after time, if it sees no difference in one or many of the pages on your sites it visits, it will return less often.
The simple way to keep a search engine interested in your website, is to give them something to be interested in. Remember; if you lose interest in your website and don’t update it from time to time, so will Google!
Blogs and similar content driven features can be a great tool to keep your website fresh, your audience interested and search engines hungry to come back and visit you.
